The practice of homeopathy is a medical system that utilizes biological remedies in dilute doses. This medical approach, originally from Germany, is a 200 year old system that is widely recognized and utilized throughout Europe. Homeopathy was introduced in the US in the 19th Century and has become integrated into mainstream medicine with the help of homeopathic physicians, as well as alternative and integrative practitioners. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a division of the NIH, has been supportive of funding research to show the safe and efficacious use of homeopathy, alongside conventional medicine.

Homeopathy is used to treat many different ailments, illnesses, and diseases. Per the medical literature, the concomitant and integrated use of homeopathic remedies with mainstream medicines is safe. Many cancer patients integrate homeopathic remedies into their cancer treatment plans, during chemotherapy and radiation treatments, without adverse events. Additionally, Homeopathy has been shown to be helpful in treating some of the side effects from chemotherapy, like stomatitis.

The use of natural remedies is not new to the allopathic, conventional, mainstream, medical model of care. In fact, most prescription drugs are derived from plants.

Did you know? Over 65% of chemotherapy drugs are derived from nature! While chemotherapy drugs are used at high doses, at concentrations that kill cancerous (and non-cancerous) cell lines, homeopathy is utilized in diluted doses that promote healing within each individual. Homeopathy is far from being completely understood in conventional medicine, myself included, but the homeopathic system positively impacts outcomes from illness and disease, by way of stimulating and modulating the immune system.

As with mainstream medicine, and despite the fact that the practice of homeopathy has been around for over 200 years, there is further research needed to answer all the specifics: How and why is homeopathy effective, and for what illnesses and to which extent of disease?

Dr. Khalsa's perspective: "Homeopathy is a process of healing. It is not a band-aid approach, nor is it a blanket 'cure-all.' In treating patients, as a partner in each individual's health and well being, I naturally recommend the least toxic approach.  Medications, whether conventional, homeopathic, or otherwise, are recommended and prescribed when necessary, used safely and effectively, taking the whole patient into account."
