Yoga has been used for centuries to prevent, reverse and treat disease. Now, with modern technology we are able to test the physiologic effects of yoga and measure its effectiveness. Dr. Khalsa has practiced yoga throughout her life, and has experienced yoga’s benefits, physically and mentally. She knows first hand how beneficial yoga and meditation can be, but also knows, through the evidence in the medical literature, that yoga can benefit many patients with chronic diseases. In the office setting Dr. Khalsa is able to identify patient’s limitations and needs, and develops an individualized therapy plan that incorporates postures and breathing for enhancing range of motion, strength and functionality. In addition, using progressive methods, which combine modern therapies with yogic techniques, patients are able to address a myriad of symptoms from pain, anxiety, depression, elevated blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome and stress. Dr. Khalsa educates other physicians about the benefits of yoga for all patients. In addition, she leads yoga workshops for physicians to reduce their own stress and musculoskeletal pain.
